Today I’m reviewing the Grana Japanese denim shirt. Denim shirts are one of those wardrobe staples hanging around in many closets.
The denim shirt is a versatile classic alternative to the white button down.
I had heard many positive reviews of Grana Japanese denim jeans and decided to put their denim shirt to the test.
Although this post is not sponsored and the shirt was not a gift, I do have a little 🎁 for you from my friends at Grana. Through September take 10% off your purchase plus free worldwide shipping with my special discount code KAIREEXGRANA.
I’m fairly picky when it comes to shopping for denim shirts. I actually did not have one in my closet for over 5 years. I think the last one I had was from charitable project FEED x Target.
However I had purchased the men’s version due to not liking the women’s cut. This later proved to be too large and the left handed buttons were a pain, so I ended up trading this in at Crossroads.
I also prefer a mildly stiff fabric (to pop that collar) and a wash that’s dark. Japanese denim is being produced by several brands (like Grana and Everlane) and is known for its stiffness and resistance to bagging and sagging.
What I like best:
The fabric is what makes this shirt a keeper. The fabric is just stiff enough to keep its structure. Yet soft enough to wear next to bare skin.
What I would change:
So far this shirt has not let me down. I do have a few pieces of advise if you’re considering purchasing online.
1) Be mindful of the size you need. Take measurements from a favorite shirt, reach out to Grana if you have questions, read the reviews and decide if you need to size up or down a size as was the case with me.
2) Most dark denim is prone to fading. This brand is no different, therefore I recommend against frequent washing. Alternatively, wash it weekly to fade it to a lovely broken-in patina that’s very off-duty.
Questions? Just ask me. Let me know what you think in the comments and happy shopping!
