REVIEW: Everlane Ryan Tank Dress
Today is a quick review of a recently acquired essential the Everlane Ryan Tank Dress.
I was inspired by the numerous YouTubers who do product review videos to create a new category on my blog called, you guessed it, “Reviews”. Despite all the controversy surrounding sponsored posts and the conspicuously consumptive “haul” videos. Because it warms my heart that regular everyday people take time out of their lives to help total strangers avoid the pitfalls of a bad purchase.
I have received numerous questions on Instagram about the fit and function of my favorite essentials, which is super flattering. But let’s be realistic. 140 characters or a cluttered IG comment field is not the ideal way to share details about an article of clothing. I for one have little to no time to film, let alone edit, a Youtube video . When I have snippets of time between kids ballet or and music lessons I like to write concise blog posts. Therefore in this review series I will truncate my posts to 3 simple and consistent topics. Going forward, you will know what to expect for future posts.
Just The Facts about the Everlane Ryan Tank Dress:
The Everlane Ryan Tank is a full length max-style dress with the top half being constructed with a cut very similar to the popular Everlane Ryan Tank top. The major difference is the straps are cut narrow at the shoulders like a “muscle” shirt. Whereas the tank top is wider at the shoulders, higher at the back neckline which effectively hides bra straps. The Ryan Tank dress on the other hand has a low back and with narrow fitting shoulder straps. Therefore, you will need a strapless bra or lace bralette.
The Ryan Tank has a built in elasticized waist band. This allows you to wear the dress above, at or below the hip line. I’m wearing mine above the waist in the photos. The hem is thickened by a 3″ cuff. As a result it gives the skirt a bit of swing. On me (5′-5″) the skirt comes to my ankles, and longer if I wear the waistband at or below my hip level.
The Best Thing about the Everlane Ryan Tank Dress:
The Fabric. This looks like a silky cotton but is actually made of 100% rayon. What I love about this dress is that the fabric is fairly wrinkle resistant and the weight of the rayon creates a lovely drape on the figure.
The One Thing I Would Change about the Everlane Ryan Tank Dress:
I would add pockets to this dress for two reasons. One being to add to the slouchy goodness (and functionality)of this casual dress. The second being that I need a place to shove my hands (nervous habit) . Some things just look better with pockets and I feel that the addition of pockets to this dress would increase its popularity. I bought mine surfing one of Everlane’s rare online clearances. I’m speculating that the no-pocket detail is what relegated this piece to the overstock pile. Otherwise this is a perfect essential that if re-released with pockets (or a nautical stripe) is sure to sell out.
