Handbags and totes will always be an essential in my closet. Most days I tend to carry my entire life in my bag, making durability the most important quality in a tote. Other days I need a mini or micro bag to tuck in my phone and wallet for a morning walk on the trail with my husband.
Any bag that does double duty as a travel accessory and an evening clutch, now THAT has my vote. Which is why I’m casting my ballot for Cuyana.
Cuyana designs classic, timeless and thoughtful accessories and apparel with a commitment to sustainable manufacturing.
Their “Fewer Better” philosophy ensures that each piece is crafted from carefully selected materials. Cuyana makes only what they can sell, to minimize waste, and conducts independent audits of the factories and suppliers they work with.
This San Francisco based company has been on my radar for many years and when they reached out to me to try their bags I didn’t hesitate*.
Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set
As we all know, travel is mostly on pause these days, and I highly encourage you to consider carefully how you travel if you do so. I recently had the opportunity to take the Cuyana Travel Case Set on a short road trip to the Sierra foothills. We were attending a concert (masks required) and due to the drive time, we booked a room for one night.
Details: The Leather Travel Case set includes two pieces for $120, comes in 16 colors and is monogrammable. The measurements for the Large are H 7 in. x W 12 in. x D 3.5 in. The small measures H 5 in. x W 8 in. x D 2.5 in.
The exterior is a durable pebbled leather and the interior is microsuede which wipes clean to protect against staining from makeup or other toiletries
For this 2 day trip, the small case was perfect for packing all of my minimalist makeup needs. I’m still going strong with my Vegan Minimalist Makeup Routine from Merit Cosmetics that I wrote about a few months ago. I even added the Amber foundation stick to deal with the oxidation issue that I mentioned that I had with Sienna.
There was more than enough space in the small case for these 5 makeup bits and travel sized shampoo, conditioner, hand cream, and travel sized skincare samples. (Tip – I save all my travel sized skincare samples from Birchbox especially for trips)
Inside the large case which doubled as my evening bag, I chose to store my undergarments, electric toothbrush, and hair styling tools.
These sets look so classy and makes travel feel that much more special. Even my husband commented on how nice these were, and he never says nice things about my handbag collection! I’m looking forward to picking up another Travel Case Set for him in black and monogrammed with his initials. For someone who doesn’t wear makeup, he actually packs way more stuff than me!
The Travel Case Sets are available in 16 colors/finishes (Shop)
Cuyana Oversized Double Loop Bag
Although I plan to use the Oversized Double Loop Bag as my everyday tote when I return to office in the Fall, this was perfect for a weekend trip. I folded in both my Travel Cases and packed all my clothes for the weekend. The side pockets were perfect for my cell phone and chargers and a water bottle.
Unlike the Travel Case Set, the Double Loop has a sumptuous suede interior with two interior pockets, one of which can be zipped.
The bag also has a magnetic closure for securing your contents. Whereas other totes on the market are wide open.
Like the Travel Case Sets, the Cuyana Double Loop collection is crafted in Italy of leather with a pebbled finish. In my experience pebbled leather is better at resisting scratching and scuffing than smooth leathers. All bags in the collection come in a selection of neutral tones with names like Ecru, Rust, and Cappuccino. There is traditional black and also a snake embossed for those who like a good print.
The Oversized Double Loop is a really big bag! If this size isn’t for you, there is also a purse-sized Double Loop bag. Rounding out the collection is the Mini Double Loop.
