If you’ve ever visited San Francisco in the summer then you know it can be a bit challenging to match your summer outfit to the less than summer temps. Given that summer in the Bay Area usually peaks in late September, with mini-heat waves and cold spells in between, a flexible wardrobe is a must…
Fortunately the culotte trend is well, still trending. This flexible key piece is “less than pants but more than shorts” and will stylishly span the late spring to late summer months without you freezing to death or sweating it out.
The pair of culottes in my closet are by Banana Republic. The key to wearing this trend is to experiment with length and proportion until you get it right. I paired my culottes with a long-ish drapey silk blouse from Everlane as an office look. On the weekends I opt for a nautical stripe t-shirt tucked in and and platform espadrille.
To add height I opted for these nude-ish colored ankle boot by Rachel Zoe. Light colored footwear, also trending this season, in a hue close to your skin tone lengthens the leg while drawing attention to the silhouette of the culottes.
