My secret to looking pulled together the first few days of the work week is to reach for neutral wardrobe staples.
I know what you’re thinking. Lots of shades of beige, grey, and that color in between “greige”, Sounds a little too vanilla, I agree. But neutrals don’t have to be boring, which is what this post is all about. How to make your neutral wardrobe staples pop!
When your weekends are chock full of errands, family outings and kid-carpool duty it can feel overwhelming come time to prep your wardrobe for the work week ahead. But putting in the effort to look presentable is more important than you think.
As my friend Alysha Casis-Shaw of curated vintage site Neutral Ground said, “So much of how we feel about ourselves and how we are perceived by others comes from how we present to the world. Its important that you go out into the world feeling good about yourself as it affects your performance”.
So how do you make neutrals perform so that you too can present your best self?
- To get neutrals to Pop , the key is to go for contrast. Contrast hues such as light over dark, and this also applies to textures. In this look I juxtaposed a chunky knit sweater with a buttery vegan leather trouser. I chose leather because it’s inherently UN-boring.
- Don’t stop at the outfit. Include shoes as well. This chanel-inspired designer-dupe pump from Vaneli in tan leather contrasts chicly against a grosgrain cap toe. Contrast in texture AND color all in one piece. A win-win.
- As for outerwear, I kept the theme going, opting for a beige Trench coat with an unexpected plaid interior. By the way this trench is reversible, so again, contrast for days! Find out why every woman needs and Essential Trench Coat in my previous post
