I’ll be the first to admit that I used to find luxury beauty products quite intimidating! I was never one (and still am not) to make a beeline to the beauty section of high-end department stores.
Not that I haven’t tried. I was often ignored at the beauty counter by the ladies with the perfect nude smokey-eye. And when I finally mustered the courage to ask for a complimentary makeover, it was a complete disaster.
I expected my fellow shoppers passing by my chair to be wowed by my transformation. Instead all I saw were looks of shock and horror. Instead of the smokey eye I asked for, my lids were coated in all the wrong hues. I remember there being purple eye shadow involved and lots of burgundy blush!
From that day on I’ve been a DIYer when it comes to make up. Furthermore, I’m super selective on which skincare products I’ll try. I tend to be super frugal; splurging only on tried and true beauty products. Even then all my beauty purchases have been transacted online, not at the beauty counter.
But, that might be changing. Recently a box arrived from Dior with a sampling of beauty luxuries for me to try.
- Dior Prestige Le Micro Serum De Rose Yeux. This powerful eye serum is packed with anti-aging properties. To top it off, the product dispenser includes a built in eye roller. So there’s no need to reach for your Jade roller. I’m always here for a good eye serum. I have congenitally puffy eyelids and eye baggage. The Rose Yeux serum effectively depuffs and treats those fine lines around the eye in one bottle.
- Dior Backstage Face and Body Glow. Lightly scented and packed with glow, what I love about this product is that it’s subtle when blended into the skin. At my age, glitter is kind of out of the question. I want that glow while also being taken seriously as a professional woman. People sensitive to scents may prefer to avoid applying to the face.
- Dior Joy Eau de Parfum Intense. Speaking of scent, last among this gift box of beauty luxuries is Dior’s Joy. Joy is an intense floral eau de parfum captured in a youthful pink hue. Not to be mistaken for the historic Joy by Jean Patout, Dior Joy is not your grandmother’s perfume!
Like this updated version of a classic perfume, the process of indulging in beauty luxuries has evolved. Now you can try any number of products in the comfort of your own home. With the abundance of social media reviews and blog posts you’re certain to find what works for you. Do let me know if you have questions about any of these products.
And while I still find beauty counters intimidating I will definitely make a trip to the Dior counter, and maybe even ask for a smokey eye – tutorial.
