I always incorporate an 11th key (Trend) piece each season, and my pick is the Fall Floral Dress.
Taking the 5-Day Floral Challenge gave me the confidence to reconnect with the feminine side of my wardrobe. Because I work in a male-dominated career I tend towards masculine dressing. But I must say that my soft side is thrilled that the floral dress is popular this fall.
What particularly resonates with me is that this season’s fall floral is vampy and dark.
Somehow a dark floral feels more “serious” and edgy. Subsequently the look is more mature and I don’t feel like I’m chasing youth. As with most trends, the dark floral dress comes in all price points. My preference is to keep the cost down in case the trend is a disastrous look on me.
If you choose the budget route however, I must caution you that florals can easily look cheap. This is directly related to the process by which the “print” is incorporated into the fabric. Pay close attention to whether the print is surface-applied and will fade with a few washes.
Who What Wear for Target has hit the mark this fall with their dark floral prints. The collection features florals in a variety of cuts so whether you are Granny-chic or Boho you will find what suits you.
I chose the long maxi dress which features faux leather piping at the neckline and sleeve. The muted pastel print is not too girly and the piping detail conveys the seriousness I mentioned earlier. I styled my look with a tough leather moto and ankle boots from Acne Studios. While I’m not crazy about the asymmetric hemline, as it’s a bit too boho for me, I love the high neckline and leather buttons on the sleeves. I’m contemplating evening out the hemline since it trails behind me like a wedding train.
