The Essential Shirt Dress
One of my favorite ways to update my Spring wardrobe is with a simple button up shirt dress.
Two Springs ago I opted for a maxi length version by Who What Wear for Target. I wore this so much that I had to mend a split seam! Talk about getting your money’s worth.
This season I’m wearing this shorter version in collaboration with wardrobe essentials brand Grana.
I’m so attracted to the shirt dress because it exudes sophistication, while at the same time being the most relaxed silhouette ever.
No matter which fabric it’s made from, linen, cotton poplin, wool, you cannot fail in a shirt dress .
You could literally wear the shirt dress seven days a week.
- Monday through Friday: Toss on a blazer and sensible pumps for work.
- Saturday: Cuff the sleeve and slide on a flat sandal for running errands.
- Sunday: Left unbuttoned the shirt dress is a perfect cover-up over you favorite 2-piece.
These are just a few reasons why the shirt dress is the ultimate essential.
Grana’s version has some yummy updates to keep you looking pulled together.
- The built-in sleeve tabs keep your cuffed sleeves from slouching.
- An internal drawstring belt nips in the waist. Alternatively wear it low slung on the hips for a casual vibe.
- And perhaps the best feature is that it has, tag-dah, POCKETS!

Thanks Giulia! It’s nice to have a staple piece that you can rely on season after season!
Hello! The Grana dress looks great on you. Just wondering if you find that it clings because it isn’t lined. Thanks for your review- tempting me to purchase for sure.

Hi Sara – Thank you for the compliment! What a great question. Static cling is definitely a drag, and silk has the potential to cling under certain circumstances. If the air is particularly dry and you place another fabric on top (such as a cotton cardigan) or under it (such as slip) then yes it could cling – weather dependent. Worn by itself, it should be fine. I hope you find something you like on Grana.com; feel free to contact me with questions on their other collections!
