Is the Winter weather forcing your favorite luxe pieces indoors? If so, it doesn’t have to be that way. With a few strategically worn layering pieces, you can step out into the cold season looking as hot as ever.
Today’s post isn’t about this dress, but about what’s underneath the look.
Each winter I routinely pack away my summer and fall pieces and rotate in my thick sweaters.
And while I love #sweaterweather as much as the next gal, I don’t love putting my fav pieces on ice for 6 months. I want to get those “cost per wears” after all, especially on luxe pieces like this dress from Israeli designer Dodo Bar Or (currently on sale for under $150 here).
I never was great at layering. Due to spending most of the months in California, and summers in Kansas, I never had to worry about it.
But a 6 month work assignment in Istanbul during their winter months taught me a valuable lesson in layering. I was referred to a company called Winter Silks. Their light as air leggings and long sleeve tees got me through that snowy winter while still preserving my sense of style. (If you’ve ever been to Istanbul you noticed how put together every woman is there).
You can achieve the same warming effects with affordable layers in a range of fabrics. Uniqlo does a great job at tights and long sleeve tees. I especially love their Heatec line which is light yet effective at keeping you warm.
If you prefer a non synthetic option then Everlane’s tissue thin Pima cotton turtle neck is a great choice. And this piece can be worn by itself, not just under your clothes. It’s also great if you don’t like showing a lot of skin but still want to look sexy – as in my Harlyn post here.
Don’t forget socks! In my case I paired a thin wool sock (smartwool is my go to) with an ankle sock boot. Mine are from Zara and long out of stock but I’ve listed an alternative from ASOS.
What’s best about these lightweight pieces are they keep you looking sleek and un-Michelin-man-like.
