While I am not the first to coin the term “Boho Minimalist”, I find my style tends to fall in and out of orbit of both categories.
For example, you’ve seen my posts wearing the floral print boho dress from Who What Wear x Target (click to read) You guys looovve these posts. Case in point, one of my favorite IGrs @creativekisha (Watch here!) tagged me in a video wearing the dress!
On the flip side, you all KNOW I’m a patron of Everlane’s minimal aesthetic. I wear their clothes almost Ever-yday and have posted several reviews on the blog (read here)
Yet, it’s rare that I see the term Boho Minimalist used on social media. And when I do, its way more leaning towards the Boho side. My online search yielded just a few sites with posts dedicated to boho minimalist style.
As of the publish date of this post, the hashtag for Boho Minimalist #bohominimalist had only 352 posts on Instagram.
The flowy feminity of the Bohemian style speaks to my girly side. And I’m also pretty comfortable with my masculine side, having absorbed the androgynous dress style of the 90’s.
Therefore when I started this blog with a focus on wardrobe essentials, in the minimalist vane, there wasn’t much room left for bohemianism. Or so I thought.
Check my ABOUT page list of 10 wardrobe essentials (key pieces – wink*) Notice there is and always has been, an 11th key piece? Yup, that spot is for your flexible or trendy item. That’s where my bohemian pieces come into play.
You too can have the best of both worlds by following these easy steps to capture your Bohemian Minimalist Style:
1. Choose one boho piece to highlight
This floral dress has a lot going on and as such should be the focus of your outfit.
2. Anchor your ensemble with 1 or 2 Minimalist pieces
This flowy dress would literally take off without this Everlane cardigan coat. For the office pop on a black blazer.
3. Keep shoes and bags to a “minimalism”
That’s right, save the western style boho boot and fringed bag for Coachella. Here I chose the minimal lines of the Madewell Transport tote and Everlane E1 boot (currently on sale!)
4. Accessorize with love
At the time of this post I was coveting the Jesse Western belt. Instead grabbed my sentimental leather embossed “Kairee” belt that I’ve had since my Tijuana weekends gone past. (Coulda been worse, coulda got a Kairee tattoo!)
And these silver hoop earrings were handmade in Bali from Kathy Kamei designs. This piece comes with a card where the designer writes, “each of us is already a jewel, without without adornments”.
Hopefully I’ve helped you get off to a good start on boho minimalist styling and solved the conundrum of having it all (wardrobe that is!)
